Jewish Lives Scottish Spaces

Jewish Lives Scottish Spaces

A new digital archive featuring a selection of the Archive Centre’s material has been published online. Covering 10 themes, it gives a flavour of the diversity and richness of our collections. It was one of the outputs of the Jewish Lives, Scottish Spaces project.  https://sjac-collection.is.ed.ac.uk/

Jewish Lives, Scottish Spaces was a research project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. It was a joint project between the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow that ran from September 2015 until April 2018. The project drew primarily on the collections of the Scottish Jewish Archives Centre (SJAC), the largest and continually growing repository of items relating to Jewish migration to and life in Scotland.

The other outputs were:

A blog about the Project http://jewishmigrationtoscotland.is.ed.ac.uk/

5 short films about Jewish migration to Scotland http://jewishmigrationtoscotland.is.ed.ac.uk/…/points-of-a…/

A walking tour of Edinburgh’s Jewish history, available online and via the Curious Edinburgh App https://jewishstudies.div.ed.ac.uk/edinburgh-jewish-walks/

A book: Jewish Orthodoxy in Scotland: Rabbi Dr Salis Daiches and Religious Leadership, Scottish Religious Cultures Series, Edinburgh University Press, 2019
