Jeff Kaye was born in Glasgow, grew up in Newton Mearns, attended Calderwood Lodge School and Hutchesons Grammar School, was active in the Habonim movement and studied Psychology at Strathclyde University. He moved to Israel in 1981 and worked as a teacher and school principal. Later, he served as senior emissary and senior executive for the Jewish Agency for Israel. He served as the Executive Vice President of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews and is cofounder of the Israel Academy of Philanthropy. He is currently a Vice President at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel.
Jeff has just published a book, Gathering Grains of Sand, telling the story of his quest to investigate the life of his great grandfather, Samuel Jacobs, a Lithuanian Jewish immigrant to Scotland. Samuel was a kosher butcher in the Gorbals, as well an active member of the Chevra Kadisha, South Portland Street and Langside Synagogues and heavily involved in Jewish education in the city. He will describe his research, including sources made available by the Scottish Jewish Archives Centre and his journey back to Lithuania.
