First Minister visits Scottish Jewish Archives Centre
As part of a visit to Garnethill Synagogue facilitated by the Scottish Council for Jewish Communities, we were delighted to welcome Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, to the Archives Centre. Deborah Haase and Fiona Brodie gave the First Minister a guided tour of our timeline, the store rooms and our displays room and ended the visit by presenting Ms Sturgeon with a copy of our most recent publication, “Jewish Glasgow, An Illustrated History”. The First Minister was extremely complimentary about the Archives Centre and promised to return in the future for a longer visit to spend more time studying our collections – she expressed her particular interest in the history of the Gorbals and the contribution that the Jewish community made there for so many years. She wrote in our visitors’ book:
‘ Thank you very much for welcoming me and for showing me some of the wonderful Archives.’
